Simmons brings over 28 years of power industry experience to MVEA
January 2023, Falcon, CO – Mountain View Electric Association, Inc. (MVEA) recently named Scott Simmons as Vice President of Technical Services. In this role, Simmons will be responsible for the management of MVEA’s information services including the co-op’s fiber broadband project and buildout. He will also be charged with upholding the MVEA Board of Directors’ promise to provide access to high-speed fiber internet to its membership.
Simmons comes to MVEA with a wealth of experience, having worked at a neighboring cooperative, Mountain Parks Electric Inc. in Granby, CO, for the past 17 years. At Mountain Parks, he most recently served as the manager of engineering and as the assistant general manager. He was also integral in managing the co-ops’ fiber optic backbone project.
“I have been working in the power industry for over 28 years; I am excited for this new opportunity at MVEA, while also getting to stay in the electric cooperative family,” Simmons said. “It’s a privilege to join the MVEA Executive Team and focus on our information infrastructure and the fiber broadband project – an initiative aimed at improving the lives of our membership and the communities we serve.”
Among Simmons’ many attributes, he holds a Professional Engineer (PE) license, has executive management experience, and has worked on countless construction and energy projects, including work with Tri-State Generation and Transmission, MVEA’s power supplier. His background and knowledge are tremendous assets to MVEA.
“My goal is to manage not only the fiber project but the expectations of our members while effectively relaying those to our broadband partner. Ultimately, we should not just meet these needs, but exceed member expectations,” Simmons said.
MVEA and fiber broadband partner Conexon Connect, branded Connect, powered by Mountain View Electric Association, are currently constructing the first phase of the high-speed fiber broadband project, which includes portions of Black Forest, Colorado Springs, Falcon, and Limon. Members have already started being connected in portions of Falcon and Limon.
