Objective

To use my knowledge and experience in representing the member-owners of Mountain View Electric Association as a director.

Background

I am currently retired and am the former owner-operator of the Limon Comfort Inn in Limon and the Sterling Comfort Inn in Sterling, Colorado. From 1985 to 2001, I owned and operated the Fireside Junction Restaurant in Limon. Prior to having the restaurant, I was employed as general manager of Rip Griffin’s Truck Stop in Limon. I was a high school math teacher and coach in Freeport, Illinois. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from St. Joseph’s College, Rensselaer, Indiana. My wife, Georgann, and I have resided in Limon since 1980. We have five children and 5 grandchildren.

Board Experience

I have been a member of the MVEA Board of Directors since 1988. I have taken all the courses required to achieve my Credentialed Cooperative Director and my Board Leadership Certificate. I served 10 years on the Limon Town Board of Trustees. In 2013, I was elected to represent the Electric Cooperatives of Colorado on our national board, NRECA (National Rural Electric Cooperative Association). I was re-elected to serve on the NRECA Board in 2015, 2017, and 2019. In February of 2021, I was elected to a leadership position as Secretary/Treasurer of the NRECA Board.

Service

I am a current member and past president of the Limon Rotary Club, current member and past officer of Citizens Investment Club, past chairman of the Limon Public Schools District Accountability Committee, and a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Limon.

Position

“After serving many years on the MVEA Board, I have become aware of how complicated the rural electric systems are and have gained a comfort level in understanding these complexities. I also want to help MVEA develop a solar project and other opportunities as they present themselves.”
