Background
I am Errol Hertneky, your present director from District 3. I have lived in this District on the same farm since I was born—and before it had electricity. I graduated from Calhan School and then from Colorado State University with a degree in Ag Business. I next got to spend the next 6 years with the Colorado National Guard, and during that time married my wife Bette, and our daughter Dana, and son Travis were born. I then went back to UCCS for an additional degree in accounting. This has proved invaluable since joining the board at MVEA as it helps understand the differences between utilities that are driven by profit, and a co-op which is owned by the members, and where service is the motivating force.
Board Experience
I have been on your MVEA board for 8 ½ years, and in those years have attended countless training courses and workshops sponsored by Colorado Rural Electric Association and co-op lenders. Through these programs I have achieved their top Director Gold Credential which indicates that I have achieved a knowledge of the rural electric industry, knowledge that grows with continued education and experience. This knowledge gained over the past 8 ½ years is important in my ability to serve as a productive member of your MVEA board.
Statement of Position
“Providing reliable power 24/7 to MVEA members, in all types of weather and circumstances, is a priority. My experience, both as a life-long MVEA member and as a current board member, has taught me a valuable lesson: Cost per kilowatt doesn’t matter, if you don’t have power. While we strive for affordable rate stability, ensuring members have reliable power is a priority. Focusing our efforts on continued system upgrades to increase reliability will serve current and future members alike.”
Errol Hertneky Earns NRECA Director Gold Credentials
2020 – Errol Hertneky, Mountain View Electric Association board assistant secretary, has been awarded the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) top Director Gold credential.
According to the NRECA, the Director Gold credential is geared towards directors who are committed to continuing their education beyond the Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate and the Board Leadership Certificate, and who desire a tangible credential that reinforces their stature as part of an elite group of experienced and educated directors.
The credential will also demonstrate to co-op members and other stakeholders, those directors’ ongoing commitment to advancing their knowledge and performing their fiduciary duty to the best of their ability.
