Go Greener With Your Energy Use
Looking for a convenient and inexpensive way to go a little greener with your energy use? Mountain View Electric Association (MVEA) members may purchase Green Power blocks to help support the development of renewable energy through the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).
Members who choose to participate in the Green Power program are purchasing RECs that are either sourced:
- On the open market
- From Tri-State G&T’s growing REC portfolio
The purchase of Green Power blocks supports the continued development of renewable energy resources through the purchase of:
- Wind
- Solar
- Bio-fuel
- Green tags
Cost of Green Power Blocks
As the cost of research and development for renewable energy goes down, so does the cost of Green Power blocks.
- In 2000, MVEA started offering green power at the cost of $2.50 per 100 kilowatts (kWh) block.
- Today, the cost is only 10¢ per 100 kWh block. (This is in addition to the member’s regular monthly bill for actual kWh use).
How Does the Program Work?
- Members purchase Green Power in 100 kWh blocks.
- Each block costs 10¢ and is billed on the monthly statement as an additional charge.
- A one-year commitment to buying green power is requested.
For the average residential member who uses 1,000 kWh a month, participating in the Green Power program would be an additional investment of only $1 a month to support renewable energy generation.
