At Mountain View Electric Association (MVEA), reliability is more than just a promise; it’s the foundation of everything we do. Since opening in 1941, when a group of neighbors in the Black Forest area came together to bring electricity to areas beyond Colorado Springs, we’ve been committed to keeping the lights on for our community.
Today, MVEA serves over 56,500 members, supported by over 165 dedicated employees—many of whom are not just your neighbors but also proud co-op members themselves. Being part of a cooperative means something special: it’s about trust, community, and working together to create a brighter future.
As an MVEA member, you’re more than just a customer—you’re an owner. This distinction comes with a host of unique benefits that set us apart from investor-owned utilities. Here’s a closer look at some of the ways MVEA is spreading the love to our members and communities…
1.Capital Credits: Your Investment, Your Reward
Unlike investor-owned utilities, MVEA operates as a not-for-profit cooperative. This means when we have excess revenues, they’re returned to you, our members, as capital credits. Since our first retirement, we’ve given back over $83.5 million to members! Want to see if you have unclaimed credits? Check out MVEA’s Capital Credits page.
2. Energy Efficiency Rebates: Save Energy, Earn Rewards
Upgrading your home with energy-efficient products doesn’t just save you money on your bills — it can also earn you rebates. From electric vehicle chargers to smart thermostats and outdoor power equipment, MVEA’s Energy Efficiency Rebate Program helps you maximize your savings. Explore eligible products and apply for rebates here.
3. Operation Round Up®: Small Change, Big Impact
Rounding up your electric bill to the nearest dollar makes a world of difference. This program has distributed over $3.3 million since 1999, helping neighbors and local organizations through personal emergencies, medical challenges, and community support initiatives. With an average contribution of 50 cents a month, you can make a lasting impact. Learn more or enroll here.
4. Youth Programs: Empowering the Next Generation
We’re passionate about supporting our future leaders. From our Youth Leadership Trip to scholarships and coloring contests, MVEA’s programs inspire creativity, leadership, and education. This year, we’re awarding $28,000 in scholarships to both traditional and nontraditional students. Find out more about these opportunities here.
5. Free Safety Demonstrations: Knowledge That Saves Lives
Safety is at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s our High Voltage Demonstration or Story Behind the Switch program for elementary students, we bring safety education to companies, classrooms, and communities. Learn how to schedule a free demo for your company or classroom here.
6. Sponsorships: Supporting Local Events
As a cooperative, we’re deeply invested in our community’s success. Hosting an event? MVEA offers sponsorships to support activities that align with our mission of sustainable development. Apply for sponsorship opportunities here.
At MVEA, reliability goes beyond delivering electricity—it’s about empowering our members, supporting our community, and driving progress toward a brighter future. Whether it’s giving back through capital credits, championing renewable energy, or investing in the next generation through youth programs, every initiative reflects our commitment to you. Together, we’re not just keeping the lights on—we’re building a stronger, more connected community and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
