At Mountain View Electric Association (MVEA), reliability is at the heart of everything we do. We understand how crucial dependable power is to our members, which is why we recently completed a major infrastructure/system upgrade along Highway 24 near Falcon, Colorado. Over the last six months, our dedicated crews replaced nearly 100 utility poles across a four-mile stretch of this critical highway. Many of these poles dated back to the 1950s, a testament to the hard work of previous generations of linemen who laid the foundation for the system we rely on today. This project is part of our ongoing commitment to modernizing and strengthening our electric infrastructure, ensuring reliable power for both current and future needs.
Highway 24 isn’t just a road—it’s a lifeline for the community. As Falcon continues to grow, this stretch of highway has become increasingly vital. Historically, Falcon was a key railroad junction in the late 1800s, with two major rail lines intersecting near what is now Highway 24. As the use of automobiles grew, Highway 24 became the backbone of Falcon’s transportation network, linking people and businesses to the broader region. For MVEA, ensuring that this historic route remains a reliable link is part of our mission to serve the community. Projects like this pole and line replacement are vital to not only preserving the area’s infrastructure but also preparing it to meet future demands with the reliability our members count on.
This project wasn’t just about replacing old utility poles. It was about continuing the legacy of linemen from decades past while ensuring the system is ready for the future. The poles that have served us for over half a century were replaced with larger, stronger structures to meet the increasing demands of the modern world. In many ways, our current linemen are building on the work of those who came before them—honoring the past while making critical improvements to power a growing community.
None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our incredible crews. During the project, two teams worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality. Special thanks to Josh Allen, John Barnes, Wyatt Farnum, Jeremy Greer, Zach Guettlein, Mason Micci, and Luke Parson—each of whom brought their expertise and commitment to the job. Five of these team members were Apprentices, who were given the opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on experience, learning directly from our Journey Linemen. This mentorship embodies the strong brotherhood of the line trade, where knowledge is passed down, and the next generation is prepared to continue the legacy of excellence.
At MVEA, we’re more than just an electric cooperative. We’re your neighbors, your friends, and your partner. We care deeply about the communities we serve. Every pole we replace and every wire we upgrade is done to provide safe and reliable power in the communities we serve. Thank you for trusting us to keep the power on. We are committed to powering your lives today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
