Offers Electrical Safety Poster Contest

Elementary-aged poster contest winners will take home a Kindle Fire™ and more!

Mountain View Electric Association, Inc. (MVEA), your local electric cooperative, is proud to offer the second annual Electrical Safety Poster Contest for all K-5 students! One poster winner from each grade level will receive a Kindle Fire™, an Amazon gift card and, for their entire classroom, an Energy Learning Experience! Plus, the overall winner’s poster will be featured in the May issue of Colorado Country Life magazine to highlight National Electrical Safety Month.

To enter, students will create an original poster showing how to be safe around electricity. Electrical safety themes include: never mix electricity and water, never stick toys or objects into outlets, watch for overhead power lines when playing outside, or students can come up with their own electrical safety theme. The poster deadline is March 1, 2017. Winners will be notified in April.

The poster contest isn’t the only free school program MVEA offers. MVEA is encouraging teachers in the MVEA service area to enroll in a free 3 day conference for educators (teaching grades 4 to 12) on June 27 through June 29 in Westminster, CO. The National Energy Education Development (need) project is a conference held each summer in conjunction with MVEA’s power supplier, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association. The conference gives teachers the opportunity to learn about energy and STEM integration in the classroom and about meeting Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards using energy and more.

And the best part? There’s no cost for educators in the MVEA service area. Attending teachers receive a need Science of Energy Kit, a class-set of need Energy Info books (at grade level), access to all need Curriculum Guides and supplemental resources. Teachers can apply to attend the 2017 conference at the RegOnline website.
