Job Description

We are looking for a Distribution Line Designer who will be responsible for timely and accurate preparation of staking sheets along with performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for project management and design duties to ensure timely and accurate preparation and installation of single, two and three phase lines. Including underground and overhead electric systems.
  • Design plans may include accommodations for force accounts, subdivisions, work plan projects and system rebuilds associated with road projects.
  • Research and obtain easements, rights-of-way, and statements of authority as required.
  • Adhere to and promote utilization of good engineering practices. Follow guidelines as set forth in, but not limited to, the Association policies and engineering policies. The designer will also be required to follow NESC guidelines, and RUS rules and specifications.
  • Answers inquiries for cost estimates and other basic engineering questions.
  • Identify member needs both actual and anticipated. Assists in identifying critical complaint trends. Reports findings to Supervisor.
  • Responsible for the prompt processing of all payments in accordance with established procedures.
  • Process member refunds such as adverse deposits and indeterminate refunds in accordance with established procedures.
  • Responsible for Engineering Record Retention according to Employee Policy E-313.
  • Responsible for maintenance and appearance of assigned vehicle.
  • Required to keep up to date in first aid and CPR procedures, safety rules and regulations.

Job Related Qualifications

Requirements
  • Associate’s degree in engineering technology field preferred.
  • Three years related utility experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience and extensive knowledge to effectively use current Microsoft Office products.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, well organized, personable, and able to exercise discretion, and use sound judgment in dealing with people and confidential information.
  • Exhibit sound and accurate judgement uses time effectively and manage competing demands.
  • Works independently to plan, schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with members and co-workers in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Ability to react to change productively and to handle a high workload.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules, staking sheets, NESC, RUS specification books, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to calculate figures, line sag, tensions, power calculations, loading calculations, and strength calculations. Ability to understand and apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Must maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
