Every year MVEA sponsors an essay contest for high school juniors. The first place and second place winners receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., for Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, in June with other Colorado students from across the state. The third and fourth place winners will be invited to the Colorado Electric Education Institute’s Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp in Clark, Colorado, just outside Steamboat Springs, in July.

To be eligible

  1. The student must submit an essay of approximately 500 words on the topic – Renewable energy is a hot topic. If you were faced with having to provide 100% renewable energy to MVEA’s co-op members, what steps would you take to accomplish this, what challenges do you foresee, and do you think it is possible?
  2. The student must be at least 16 years of age by January 1, 2020
  3. Parents or guardians must receive electric service from MVEA.
  4. Complete the Entry Form.
  5. Include a high resolution digital or hardcopy image of the student with the application.

Entries must be emailed, postmarked, hand delivered to any MVEA office or placed in an MVEA drop box by November 14, 2019. Attach or scan the entry form with your essay and send it to: or MVEA, Attn: Essay Contest, 11140 E. Woodmen Road, Falcon, CO 80831 by November 14, 2019.
