Calling All High School Juniors and Seniors!
–Deadlines Approaching for MVEA Essay Contest and Scholarship Applications!–
October 10, 2017, Falcon, CO –This year, Mountain View Electric Association, Inc. (MVEA) is sponsoring an essay contest for high school juniors and awarding 14 scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
For high school juniors, the first place essay contest winner receives an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., for Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, in June with over 1,800 students from across the U.S. The second and third place winners are invited to the Colorado Electric Education Institute’s Youth Leadership Camp in Clark, Colorado, just outside Steamboat Springs, in July. To enter, juniors must write a 500-word essay on the following topic:
“What is the difference between energy conservation and energy efficiency? Do you feel that members should use one method over the other if they want to use less energy?”
Essays must be received by Monday, November 20, 2017.
Fourteen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors. Thirteen scholarships will be given to students planning to attend accredited colleges, universities, and junior colleges or community colleges in the fall. MVEA will also award one, $1,000 Vocational/Technical Scholarship to a student entering an occupational training program of two years or less at an accredited vocational/technical school, community college or junior college. The scholarship program is just one way MVEA invests in the community and helps ensure a bright future for the next generation of electric co-op members. Scholarship applications are due by January 16, 2018.
