Barry Springer

Position: Member
(Board Member since January 2009 and
re-election year is 2012)

District: District 6

Background:  Springer served in the U.S. Air Force for 28 years, retiring with the rank of Colonel.  Key assignments included congressional liaison in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Commander of the NAVSTAR GPS Master Control Station and Vice Commander of the Wing at Schriever AFB.   Following retirement from the Air Force, he was employed by Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems & Solutions as a Senior Program Manager and chair of the Central Region Program Manager Certification Board. 

Springer has earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer.  He is also a Qualified Program Manager and holds four patents for electronic systems.
 
He and his wife, Shyrl, have two grown children and three grandchildren.  They have resided in El Paso County for 21 years and currently enjoy retirement on a ranch in the Black Forest area.
 
Membership/Community Service: Service on Mountain View Electric and Falcon Fire Protection District boards, El Paso County Election Judge and volunteer with Black Forest Slash-Mulch operation.

Board Experience: Springer is currently a Director on the Mountain View Electric Board and serves on the Annual Meeting Committee.  He previously served as Director and Treasurer of Falcon Fire Protection District and chair of the Budget and Audit committees. 

Statement of Position:  “Our consumer owned cooperative has been our key to affordable, reliable rural electric power and I will keep MVEA consumer focused and financially sound.  Our energy demands are growing and I will support adding wind and solar power to our baseload  generation to meet the growing energy demand.  My goal is to ensure that Mountain View Electric members continue to have access to the lowest cost, most reliable electric power possible, consistent with responsible environmental stewardship.”
